Last week, Penn State's Engineering Entrepreneurship Minor welcomed another entrepreneur-in-residence. Peter D'Alessandro, managing director of the Latin American division of Eaton Corp., spent the week sharing his experiences in international business and advising student entrepreneurs.

"I was prepared for a week of delivering lectures, but the students in this program brought it to a higher level," said D'Alessandro. "Rather than passively absorb information, these students asked questions and freely discussed some very interesting concepts. It's exciting to work with students who are so excited and knowledgeable about entrepreneurship."

A highlight of D'Alessandro's visit was a tour of the Lion Launchpad, a new business accelerator program developed for student teams who want to develop their ideals into real-life businesses. During his visit to the Lion Launchpad, D'Alessandro discussed business with several student entrepreneurs, commiserating on the highs and lows of starting a business.

The week culminated in a dinner, which gave D'Alessandro a chance to share his experiences with faculty, staff and students involved with the minor. Also attending were four former entrepreneurs-in-residence, and Karen and Ken vanAssenderp. Karen vanAssenderp is the daughter of E.V. Bishoff, a supporter of entrepreneurship at Penn State who established and funded the Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program.

Reflecting on his busy week, D'Alessandro said, "If I stayed here for much longer, I'd have to start up another business! The entrepreneurial spirit in the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program is contagious."
